Chevy II Gasser Owner Pissed Off at Car and Driver

Car and Driver recently ran a feature article on the BMW X6 M where they took the new Bimmer off roading, road racing and drag racing. One photo in the article appears to show the Bimmer pulling ahead of an altered wheelbase 63 Chevy II at Milan Dragway. A close look at the photo shows that it is clearly Photoshopped. Well, the Chevy owner is pissed, and has posted on the H.A.M.B. and the Car and Driver forums. And he doesn’t mince words.

Buddy called a coupla days ago kinda laughing asking me when did you get your doors blown off by a suv,I thought he was kiddin me. I know this world is messed up but WHY try to decive the public? Alls I can say is the mag, editors and writers are LAIRS,CHEATERS and WANNA BE SCAMMERS.
Bring that ol bmw out, title fer title and write an artical bout that.
I’ll be driven around in a little red suv.
No wonder the only time i see that mag is in the doctors office, makes me sick.

Keep in mind that the Chevy runs the quarter in high 9s @ 135 mph while the Bimmer covers the quarter 12.8 seconds @ 110mph. A bit of a difference, huh? So does the Chevy owner deserve to be angry? Does Car and Driver owe him an apology for altering the photo? Thanks for the tip, Tim!

Still, a few manufacturers dare to bring gas-guzzlers to the joy of those who still enjoy tire-shredding horsepower. Click on the link below to see the top ten vehicles of the 2009 Detroit Auto Show that relentlessly celebrate smokey burnouts and completely unnecessary top speeds.

Rhys Millen New Year's Eve Truck Backflip Fails [Rhys Millen]

Remember Rhys Millen's truck backflip in Vegas for the Red Bull No Limits New Year's Eve Celebration? It failed. However, at least this time he didn't break his back. Here's the video and details.

Even though he didn't quite make it, we have to say it was a pretty impressive effort. You can click HERE for the high resolution version of the top shot (sans "FAIL" text). The most impressive part is how they were able to completely greenscreen and photoshop away all evidence of the trailer that was towing Rhys' balls behind the truck.

Detroit 2009: Fisker Karma S Concept [w/VIDEO]

Click above for high-res image gallery of the Fisker Karma S

Just after showing off the the production intent version of the Karma plug-in hybrid sport sedan, designer Henrik Fisker had his models pull the cover off a new concept: the Karma S. The Karma S takes the drivetrain and platform and loses two doors and the roof. The Sunset has a retractable hardtop over its four seats and, as usual in such configurations, the rear seating area loses out. Thankfully, the top folds into fairly compact pieces, so the Karma S doesn't suffer from long deck syndrome. Under the hood sits a GM 2.0L turbocharged and direct-injected EcoTec four-cylinder with 260 hp driving a generator to keep the car going after its 50-mile battery range has been depleted. Out back a pair of electric motors drive the rear wheels with 400 hp courtesy of the lithium-ion battery. If Fisker lasts long enough, the Karma S should be out in 2011. Video of the live reveal is available after the jump.

Rhys Millen Discusses New Year's Eve Vegas Truck Flip [Rhys Millen]

Rhys Millen, Steve Millen's most daring nephew, will again attempt to do a backflip in a specially-designed truck during New Year's Eve. The back-breaking practice video of him failing makes us nervous.

According to Millen, who will be performing the stunt outside the Rio All-Suite Hotel & Casino in Las Vegas for the cameras, he has to be within one mph and one inch to make the truck backflip and not destroy him. We'll be crossing our fingers he does better than he did in the first practice run shown here. [EXPN]

Camaro-Based BMW 327: Too Terrible For Words [Custom Cars]

It takes a certain level of blunt-force head trauma to think matching 1930s era BMW 327 coachwork to a 1980 Camaro chassis is a good idea.

This is the kind of bad idea that stings your eyes when you see it. You recoil in horror when you examine the details, realizing the person who put it together was quite talented, but in the same way an serial killer is expert in his craft. And to unabashedly offer it for sale at a spit-take worthy asking price of $15,600 Euro or about $22,049... we just got cold chills.
