Totally Tuned Six-Wheeled Hummer

Normally, I’m not a fan of Hummers, but I think this one is pretty awesome. The six-wheel set-up looks great, and you have to love how the automatic door and wheelchair ramp give it a space ship vibe. The only other Hummer I can remember seeing with this treatment was the one spotted in Moscow, but that baby was security-focused, while this example is all about the bling. And while I know that the hydraulics are functional, I’d be down with them even if they weren’t.

Clunked F-150 Goes Out With a Bang

Most of the videos I’ve seen of car being clunked have been fairly undramatic, but this old F-150 goes out with one hell of a bang. Watching it made me wonder if anyone’s actually been injured while destroying a clunker, because it seems like there’s some definite potential for injury when you’re intentionally blowing a motor. Have you guys heard about anyone getting hurt while putting down a car?

What’s Next: Electric Taxis to Test in Tokyo

Anyone who’s been to Tokyo is immediately struck by two things. First, the living spaces in Japan’s capital make the Big Apple’s cramped domiciles look like a suite at the Trump Tower, and second, the city is at the cutting edge of technology. So while it’s not surprising that the city will be a test bed for electric taxi cabs, I was struck by how simply the city’s largest cab company and its partner, Better Place, are choosing to handle the problem of limited range. Instead of pouring tons of money into the research and development of a long-range cell, the pair is aiming to make a battery which can be swapped out quickly at stations around the city, so that a fresh charge would take about as long as filling a conventional gas tank. Pretty cool idea, huh? More over at Wired.

Caption Contest: Um, Last Week’s Winner!

Yesterday, I must have had too many lunch beers, because I managed to forget what’s become one of my favorite tasks here at CarDomain—picking the Caption Contest winner! Sorry about that, y’all. And since I know everyone was waiting with baited breath to learn who came out on top, I’ll get right to it. Even though his submission is a little off-color, this week’s winner is 74Furyous, who came up with; “If all pandas had an organ like this guy they wouldn’t be in danger of extinction.”. Congrats man! Tune in, um, below, for the next installment of our generally on time Caption Contest!

Too Much of a Bad Thing: $2 Billion More For Clunkers

While the Cash for Clunkers program hasn’t been well-received by members of CarDomain, it’s proven incredibly popular with, like, everyone else. Yesterday, we got news the program might run out of money in September, but apparently reports of its death have been greatly exaggerated. This morning the House voted to pump another two billion bucks into Clunkers, which insures we’ll be seeing even more sad pictures of doomed vehicles than we originally thought. Details over at MSNBC.com.

Mind the Gap: Burly Canal Jump!

Ok, there’s “go big or go home,” and then there’s Jeff Siefert’s 160-foot jump over the Glamis Canal. Does this guy have some stones or what? I mean, if he were to screw up and nail the concrete berm, he’d have been killed. The video replays this epic jump three times, but only the middle one is at full speed. Enjoy.

Have a Seat!

Sport bikes aren’t known for their comfort, but that doesn’t mean you have to be all cramped to enjoy their power and agility. Just take a look at one industrious biker did to his Kawasaki Ninja! While I think that the wide cushion might make the foot controls a little more difficult to reach, there’s little doubt this machine would be a significantly more comfortable on the freeway. Of course, that’s given that riding something that looks this silly wouldn’t make you physically ill. via Top Speed.

Rally Crash: Why the Hell Would You Park There?

Even as someone who’s never been overly concerned about where I park my cars—motorcycles are a different story—the stupidity on display here is mind-bending. Seriously, who the hell thinks it’s a good idea to park their car on the edge of a rally course? Standing there is stupid enough, but at least you can count on your reflexes to give you a fighting chance if a driver looses it. It’s tough to tell exactly how many cars were damaged in the first crash, but it’s safe to say some major human carnage was avoided when a second driver plows into the mess. At one point, there are a dozen people in the road trying to move the crippled machine, and from what I can tell, they all got clear. The guy off to the right is one lucky dude…
